They are supposed to be finished today (they are down to a two-man crew now), and I can’t wait to see it finished. So far, my favorite part has been the flagstones – I’m not sure what I was expecting, but it wasn’t those huge, beautiful slabs of stone!
So beautiful, it makes me wish we could have done everything in them . . . but I know that wouldn’t have been practical. And if I had known how beautiful they were going to be, I would have said let’s go ahead and do the ones in the backyard as well. Of course, right now they’re covered in dirt and mud.
Jude (my beast) will be happy when they’re finished as he hasn’t been able to get into his backyard (no steps!). And when we’re in the front, he just looks around, a little confused and disgruntled. What have I done to his yard? And where are his holes??? But he has taken to the pavers in front, likes to pose on them in the evening so that people passing by can admire him. He’s such a guy!
Hector, and all the guys on the job, have been great! We had a couple of “trouble spots” after all the demo, and Hector came up with great solutions for both of them – especially the patch of wood that was exposed after demoing the crappy steps. Because the original steps were done incorrectly, when the new ones were installed it left a patch were there wasn’t any stucco and I was concerned about the framing getting wet and rotting. Hector and the crew to the rescue! They patched the stucco! They were even concerned that it now didn’t match the rest of the wall, but I told them that was such a small thing – it can be hidden by some decorative pots or something (could never match the paint now anyway).
The worst part of all of this is that now the rest of the yards look horrible, and I want to do everything. I guess I had better start playing that lottery!!
Anyway, you can pass along my many praises to everyone at Pacific Outdoor, if you are so inclined. I don’t remember the last time I had anything done at the house that was actually a pleasure instead of painful; and working with both of you is a joy. And of course, everyone in the neighborhood has been “strolling by” to see what is going on. We should have put up a sign advertising Pacific Outdoor and Remarkable Gardens. Maybe we can think about that for the next phase?
Can’t wait for you to see it!
