Just a 20 minute drive from downtown Los Angeles lies an incredible landscape with natural beauty, stunning architecture and an array of Southern California plants. Descanso Gardens is a living museum that is open to the public year-round. Located in La Canada, the 150 acres of botanical gardens is home over one-million plants and is a natural habitat to over 100 species of birds.
Descanso Gardens was preserved for future use by E. Manchester Boddy in 1953. In 2004, Descanso Gardens received museum accreditation from the American Alliance of Museums. The facility now hosts an array of horticultural exhibits that range from Japanese gardens to an ancient forest. Descanso gardens also displays an 8-acre exhibit of California native plant species.
